The questions we actually get asked

Nine of them, answered with numbers off our own shelves rather than with reassurance. If the answer is that we do not know, that is what it says.

Do you sell these hats yourselves?

We make them. Selling them is our retail partner’s job, and every buy button on this site hands you over to their shelf. Nothing on these pages takes a payment, and there is no basket to fill.

Why are there 99 pages but 125 photographs?

Because 17 of our hats come in more than one shade, and a shade is not a different hat. One page holds the whole family, with every colour shown on it, so you are not comparing a beanie against the same beanie in oatmeal.

Which of these are for sun and which are for cold?

The split is almost even: 43 are woven for bright weather and 56 for cold. Every hat says which on its own page, and the three questions on our sun or snow page will cut the catalogue down for you in one go.

How do I know it will fit?

Honestly, by reading the fit line rather than a size chart. A head measurement in inches or centimetres appears on fewer than a quarter of our listings, and the ones that carry it do not agree on the unit, so a size table here would be three quarters guesswork. What we print instead is what the hat does: adjustable, stretch, or one size and that is that.

Where a real measurement exists, it is on that hat’s page in the words the label uses.

How should I wash it?

Read the hat, not the category. Of the labels we can read, the clear majority say hand wash only, a handful allow a machine, and a few say do not wash at all. That last group exists and it matters, which is why we put the washing line on every page instead of one blanket instruction here.

If a hat has a pom, take it off before anything gets wet.

Some listings mention a UPF number. What does it mean here?

30 of our listings state a UPF figure, and we print it exactly as the label gives it. That is the whole of what we will say about it. We are hat makers and we are not going to tell you what a woven fibre does to your skin.

Do you make hats for children?

25 of them, across baby sun hats and winter knits. They are sized and described separately from the adult shelves, because a child’s head changes faster than a hat wears out and the buying advice is genuinely different.

What do they cost?

Today the catalogue runs from $8.99 to $29.99, which is the whole range and not an opening offer. Bear in mind that those numbers are copied from our partner’s listings and move without telling us, so the figure on their shelf is the one that counts.
