What we wove into this one

Mornings at the playground get bright fast, and hair pulled up into a knot rarely fits under a standard crown. We tailored this cap in washed cotton with a cutout in back so hair stays up and the brim stays down over small eyes. An adjustable brass slider dials in the fit as they grow.

Back opening for hair

The keyhole cutout at the back sits right where a high ponytail or small topknot rests. Hair pulls straight through instead of bunching underneath the crown, keeping the cap seated low on the forehead without sliding forward.

Washed cotton twill

We chose washed cotton cloth that feels broken in on the first morning out. It is lightweight and soft against a child neck, with an easy shape that crumples into a stroller bag and smooths back out at the park.

Brass adjustment slider

A metal slider at the rear strap allows smooth adjustments without snagging hair or coming undone mid-stride. You can snug it against gusts on the swings or loosen it over a thicker head of curls.

Washing and care

Rinse out sandbox grit and afternoon spills by hand in cool water and shape the crown flat to air dry. Skip the iron and bleach to keep the washed cotton dye mellow and soft.
